High-speed home hair dryers have become incredibly popular in the last two years—110,000 RPM high-speed motors, 100–240V global voltage, a portable 330g body, and intelligent temperature control with hair-care negative ions. Users get a “light, small, and stable” experience, but engineers face a different challenge inside the power board of the handle.
The power architecture of a high-speed hair dryer is an order of magnitude more complex than that of a regular hair dryer. After the AC input line passes through the rectifier bridge, the peak voltage of the high-voltage bus approaches 340V under the upper limit of 240V. Adding to this the transient impact of motor start-stop, heating wire load shedding, and thermal coupling within the confined space of the handle, the actual stress repeatedly impacts the 360–400V range. This means that the rated voltage of the high-voltage side energy storage/filter capacitor must be 400V—this isn’t performance boasting, but a survival engineering standard.
More importantly, the entire machine is being “slimmed down.”
Taking the Leifen Mini as an example, the handle diameter has been reduced from 40.3mm to 35.2mm, and the internal filter capacitors use YMIN KCM series liquid aluminum electrolytic capacitors, with specifications of 120μF 400V 13×35. The Dyson HD19 portable model, on the other hand, arranges four YMIN 400V 39μF high-voltage filter electrolytic capacitors in parallel on the PCB, using a compact package to achieve a smaller footprint, significantly reducing the length of the air outlet without sacrificing electrical performance.
YMIN’s KCM series boasts three key strengths that precisely address the three major pain points of high-speed hair dryers:
High Voltage Resistance:Withstanding 400V rated voltage surges during start-up and shutdown, preventing breakdown and protecting circuit stability.
High Temperature Resistance: Hair dryers generate significant internal heat during high-speed operation. YMIN’s high-voltage aluminum electrolytic capacitors withstand high temperatures, preventing performance degradation or damage due to overheating.
Small Size:The slim design fits the compact body of the hair dryer, facilitating installation and improving space utilization.
Four Small Capacitors in Parallel:This design provides ample filtering margin and ensures stable operation even under voltage fluctuations or full load conditions—its small size and high energy density make it an ideal choice for power filtering in portable devices.
YMIN’s high-voltage aluminum electrolytic capacitors cover specifications ranging from 400~500V and 8.2~270μF, providing a one-stop solution for high-voltage capacitor needs in various applications, from PD fast charging to high-speed hair dryers.
