In a keynote speech at 2:00 PM yesterday, Cheng Yong, Engineering Director of YMIN Electronics, delivered a presentation titled “Innovative Applications of Capacitors in Third-Generation Semiconductor Solutions.” The presentation focused on a key industry pain point: how to ensure that capacitors, a critical passive component, keep pace with the high-frequency, high-voltage, and high-temperature technologies of third-generation semiconductors (GaN/SiC) to truly unleash their performance potential. The presentation emphasized that “matching” and “reliability” are crucial. YMIN’s innovation is not a simple replacement, but a collaborative design from materials and structure to application level. Through core technological advantages such as “high capacitance density, low ESR, high reliability, and small size,” they directly address the challenges of extreme operating conditions, providing a solid “energy foundation” and “voltage stabilization core” for advanced power devices.

In-depth analysis of four practical case studies

1. AI Server Power Supply Solution – Co-design with Navitas GaN: Challenges: High-frequency switching (>100kHz), extremely high ripple current (>6A), high-temperature environment (>75℃). Solution: Uses IDC3 series low-ESR electrolytic capacitors, ESR≤95mΩ, lifespan up to 12000 hours at 105℃. Results: 60% reduction in overall size, 1%~2% increase in efficiency, and 10℃ reduction in temperature rise.

2. Infineon GaN MOS 480W Rail Power Supply – Replacing Japanese Rubycon: Challenges: Wide temperature range operation -40℃~105℃, high-frequency ripple current impact. Solution: Low-temperature capacitance degradation rate of capacitors <10%, withstands ripple current of 7.8A. Results: Passes -40℃ low-temperature start-up and high-low temperature cycle tests with 100% pass rate, meeting the rail industry’s requirement of over 10 years of service life.

3. New Energy Vehicle DC-Link Capacitor – Adapting to ON Semiconductor 300kW Motor Controller: Challenges: Switching frequency >20kHz, dV/dt > 50V/ns, ambient temperature >105℃ Solution: ESL <3.5nH, lifespan exceeding 10,000 hours at 125℃, 30% increase in capacity per unit volume. Results: Overall efficiency reaches over 98.5%, power density exceeds 45kW/L, and range is improved by approximately 5%.

4. GigaDevice 3.5kW Charging Pile Solution · Deep Collaboration with YMIN Capacitors Challenges: PFC switching frequency 70kHz, LLC switching frequency 94kHz~300kHz, input-side ripple current exceeding 17A, severe chip temperature rise significantly impacts lifespan. Solution: Adopt a multi-tab parallel structure to reduce ESR/ESL, combined with GD32G553 MCUs and GaNSafe/GeneSiC devices achieve a power density of 137W/in³: system peak efficiency of 96.2%, power factor (PF) of 0.999, and THD of only 2.7%, meeting the high reliability and 10-20 year lifespan requirements of electric vehicle charging piles.

At the exhibition, focusing on the stringent high-frequency, high-voltage, and high-temperature requirements of third-generation semiconductors for capacitors, YMIN’s booth transformed into a professional and practical technical exchange platform. The engineering team and customers engaged in lively and in-depth discussions on core issues such as capacitor stability at high frequencies and long-term reliability in high-temperature environments. The efficient interaction and precise connections fully demonstrated the market’s growing demand for high-performance domestically produced capacitors and its high recognition of YMIN’s product strength and technical solutions.

A team of experts visited to witness the strength of domestically produced chips.

In the afternoon of the exhibition, YMIN’s booth welcomed a distinguished delegation of experts for exchange. The delegation, including an academician of the Virginia Tech Academy, the R&D director of Delta Electronics, and professors from Shanghai Maritime University, Zhejiang University, and Xi’an Jiaotong University, showed great interest in YMIN’s technological achievements during their visit. The experts were particularly impressed by the innovative application of YMIN’s new generation of lithium-ion supercapacitors (LIC) in the backup power supply of NVIDIA’s AI server GB300 BBU. This solution directly addresses the challenges of GPU power surges and high-temperature lifespan, achieving significant reductions in size and weight while supporting peak power of 15–21kW with performance including internal resistance <1mΩ, 10-minute fast charging, and 1 million cycles. Also on display was YMIN’s independently developed IDC3 series liquid horn capacitors specifically designed for high-power AI server power supplies. These capacitors, typically 450V 1400μF and 30×70mm in size, offer higher voltage resistance, higher capacitance density, and longer lifespan, providing crucial support for improving the power density and reliability of AI server power supplies. The recognition and attention from these top experts is the best testament to YMIN’s commitment to independent innovation and its efforts in tackling high-end applications.
