Every answer so far is completely wrong or at least answering the wrong question.
Electronics devices are getting smaller and using less power. The ESP8266 processor with WiFi only draws 80mA and can sleep between uses drawing less than 10 mA. A supercapacitor like this can power this device for tens of hours, and when plugged into a charger, recharge in seconds.
Supercapacitors don’t explode or burn like Lithium ion batteries and can’t be overcharged. A short circuit is not good for the capacitor, but it doesn’t cause runaway combustion.
Supercaps are also low-voltage. While a 600V B+ capacitor in old radios and TVs can kill you months after last powered on, the low voltage of a supercap is not able to do any physical harm.
